IDF Warns Lebanese Army After Unauthorized Incursion in South Lebanon Security Zone

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reported that earlier on Tuesday, a Lebanese army force including engineering equipment crossed approximately 150 meters into the South Lebanon security zone, specifically breaching barriers near Zotar al-Sharqiya. This area is outside the agreed pilot zone established between the two sides. In response, the IDF fired warning shots into the air to deter the Lebanese force, ensuring no soldiers were harmed. The Lebanese troops subsequently withdrew from the area.

The IDF emphasized that the incursion violated prior understandings and that the zone entered is not part of the pilot project area. This clarification came after the Lebanese army claimed that IDF fire near their forces could delay the pilot's implementation. The IDF rejected this, stating their actions were precautionary and aimed at maintaining agreed boundaries. Israel demands that the Lebanese army adhere strictly to the agreed zones and warns that any uncoordinated movements risk endangering troops and disrupting ongoing arrangements.

The incident highlights ongoing tensions and the fragile nature of security coordination in southern Lebanon, where both sides have established limited cooperation zones to reduce conflict risks.
