Israel Expands Security Barrier Across Gaza Along the Yellow Line

Israel is continuing to extend a security barrier across the Gaza Strip along the so-called Yellow Line. According to an investigation by the AP news agency, the barrier now spans more than half the length of the Gaza Strip, with significant sections constructed in recent months. Following the release of satellite images, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed the barrier's existence and stated it is being built along the Yellow Line. Approximately 23 kilometers of the barrier were constructed in the past few months, passing through areas and cities heavily damaged during recent fighting.

The IDF emphasized that the barrier constitutes a "security zone" intended to prevent militant infiltrations, protect Israeli communities surrounding Gaza, and safeguard Israeli forces operating inside the Strip. However, AP reported that some construction appears to extend beyond the Yellow Line, raising concerns that the barrier could become a permanent border in the future. Satellite imagery shows an accelerated pace of construction, particularly near Rafah, where the barrier length increased from about 500 meters on July 1 to 2.4 kilometers by July 15, stretching from Rafah to the Moasi area.

In the last two weeks, over two kilometers were added to the southern section. If construction continues at this rate, the southern segment is expected to connect with another 17-kilometer section extending from Khan Yunis to Gaza City. Between July 7 and 21, more than one kilometer of barrier was added near Khan Yunis, and additional segments were observed near Beit Lahia in northern Gaza. This expansion reflects Israel's ongoing efforts to reinforce its defensive perimeter around the Gaza Strip amid security concerns.
