IDF Constructs Extensive Earth Barrier Along Gaza's Security Line to Prevent Infiltration

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) is building a large earth barrier stretching over 23 kilometers along the "yellow line" in the Gaza Strip, according to satellite images analyzed by Planet Labs and reported by the Associated Press. The barrier separates the area under IDF control from the rest of Gaza and extends from the northern to the southern parts of the strip, with ongoing construction near Rafah, Khan Yunis, and the al-Mawasi area.

The IDF confirmed the barrier's existence, describing it as a "security zone" designed to prevent militant infiltration and protect Israeli border communities and troops operating in Gaza. Satellite images show the southern segment near Rafah expanding from 500 meters in early July to approximately 2.4 kilometers within two weeks, with plans to connect this section to a longer barrier running from Khan Yunis to Gaza City. The barrier already covers more than half of Gaza's length, though its height remains unclear from satellite data.

This development raises questions about the future status of the yellow line and whether it will become a de facto permanent border. Meanwhile, Israeli security forces continue operations against Hamas militants inside Gaza. On the morning of the report, the IDF announced the killing of Adham Ibrahim Shaaban Nasman, head of operations for Hamas's Gaza City Brigade. Nasman was involved in directing the October 7 attacks on Israel, held Israeli hostages, and worked to rebuild Hamas's military capabilities, including training militants and distributing weapons.

The IDF stated Nasman violated the ceasefire agreement and was responsible for overseeing several Israeli hostages during the conflict, including Romi Gonen, Emily Damari, Ziv and Gali Berman, Eitan Mor, Matan Angrist, and Omri Miran. Following the announcement, hostage Emily Damari referred to Nasman on Instagram as "Sheikh Ibrahim," describing him as a key figure she encountered during her captivity who communicated with senior Hamas leaders Yahya Sinwar and Aziz al-Haddad.
