IDF Expands Ground Control Deep into Gaza, Advances 'Yellow Line' Westward

The Israeli military has significantly expanded its ground control within the Gaza Strip, pushing the so-called "yellow line" deeper into the territory, according to four field sources cited by the newspaper Al-Sharq Al-Awsat on Saturday. This expansion extends Israeli control to new areas across Gaza, with operations reaching nearly all parts of the enclave, primarily up to Salah al-Din Street, the main north-south artery.

The intensified military presence has affected multiple locations including Khan Younis in the south, Deir al-Balah, Al-Masdar village, Al-Maghazi, Wadi Gaza in central Gaza, as well as the Shuja'iyya and Tuffah neighborhoods in Gaza City, and the Jabalia and Al-Atatra areas in the north. Recent days saw increased Israeli control in northern Gaza, notably in Jabalia, Al-Atatra, and the Zaytoun, Shuja'iyya, and Tuffah neighborhoods. These areas have been subjected to artillery fire, airstrikes, drone attacks, and ground vehicle operations, resulting in casualties and displacing thousands of families westward.

Additionally, attacks have intensified in the Tel Sultan neighborhood of Rafah, and Khan Younis is reportedly being encircled from three directions. A recently revealed IDF presentation detailed Hamas's military preparations, highlighting training for elite units, recruitment of young fighters aged 18 to 22 dubbed the "next generation," and increased production of explosives and rockets. The presentation also noted accelerated smuggling of drone parts and other materials through border crossings.

In the past week, the IDF eliminated several militants involved in the October 7 attacks and hostage-taking. Among them was Hamas operative Muhammad Na'im Jandiyah, who held hostages including Yotam Hayim, Alon Shmoriz, and Samer Al-Talalka, and led an elite unit responsible for the Nahal Oz kibbutz raid. Another militant, Talal Jaber Muhammad Abd Al-Aal from Islamic Jihad, was also killed; he commanded a cell involved in the October 7 incursions and hostage holding.

Separately, Israeli security agencies have decided to discontinue using the term "voluntary migration" regarding plans to relocate Gaza residents, following international criticism that the phrase implied support for forced transfer, which hindered other countries from accepting displaced Gazans.
