IDF Expands Control Beyond Original Yellow Line Near Rafah Ahead of Possible Multinational Force Deployment

In recent weeks, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have extended Israeli control beyond the original Yellow Line northwest of Rafah. The newly secured area, which includes the former settlements of Bnei Atzmon and Bedolah in the Gush Katif bloc, has been cleared by Israeli forces and marked as a potential zone to be handed over to a future multinational force. Currently, Israel holds 52% of the original Yellow Line area and has taken control of additional points beyond it. However, the IDF has decided not to further expand its presence at this stage, maintaining a directive to hold the Yellow Line without pushing it further.

A security official told Channel 12, "We are not giving up the security Yellow Line. If there is a multinational force, it can take over the new territory we have secured beyond the Yellow Line northwest of Rafah." Meanwhile, tensions remain high along the Gaza border. Yesterday, incendiary balloons were spotted near one of the Gaza envelope communities, raising concerns within the security establishment that Hamas is testing its ability to inflict damage and provoke Israeli responses. There is apprehension that these attempts could escalate to the use of explosive balloons, incendiary devices, or even rockets. These incidents coincide with warnings from observers along the border who have detected militant activity near the security fence.
