Taxi Driver Arrested for Defrauding Dementia Patient of 10,000 Shekels After Ichilov Hospital Ride
A 56-year-old taxi driver from Rehovot was arrested on Monday by detectives from the Lev Tel Aviv station in the Yarkon area, suspected of defrauding a 75-year-old dementia patient. The elderly man had taken a taxi from Ichilov Hospital to another city. During the ride, the driver allegedly stole the patient's credit card and made purchases totaling around 10,000 shekels. Instead of completing the trip, the driver dropped the man off alone in northern Tel Aviv, far from his intended destination.
The investigation began after the victim filed a complaint describing how the driver exploited his vulnerable condition. Police conducted covert inquiries, gathered evidence, and identified the suspect. Following a court-issued arrest warrant, the driver was taken into custody and questioned on charges of theft and fraud.
The suspect is scheduled to appear today at the Tel Aviv Magistrate's Court for a detention extension hearing. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities continue to examine the case.
