Tel Aviv Police Arrest Taxi Driver for Alleged Fraud Against Elderly Passenger

Tel Aviv police detectives from the Lev Tel Aviv station in the Yarkon area arrested a 56-year-old taxi driver from Rehovot on suspicion of defrauding a 75-year-old elderly passenger. The incident occurred after the passenger was picked up from a medical facility in central Tel Aviv. During the ride, the driver allegedly took the passenger's credit card and made purchases totaling thousands of shekels while the elderly man remained in the taxi. Instead of driving the passenger to his intended destination, the driver reportedly dropped him off alone in northern Tel Aviv.

Following a complaint, police launched an investigation to identify and gather evidence against the driver. The evidence was presented to the court, which issued an arrest warrant on charges of theft and fraud. The suspect was apprehended during a covert operation on the evening prior to the report. He was taken for questioning and is expected to appear in court today for a detention extension hearing.
