Police arrested a 47-year-old East Jerusalem resident on Tuesday on suspicion that he attacked an elderly man and robbed him at his shop in central Tel Aviv. The suspect is expected to have his remand extended today.
According to police, the incident was reported on Sunday after a man in his 80s was allegedly assaulted in his store on King George Street in Tel Aviv. Investigators say the suspect entered the shop in the morning, attacked the victim, and took his wallet. Police opened an investigation, identified the suspect from the evidence, and arrested him on Tuesday. After questioning, he was jailed, and a court extended his detention until today.
The article also says that last month the same East Jerusalem resident broke into the Gila and Nancy restaurant in Tel Aviv, owned by chef Eyal Shani, and stole a cash register containing money. He was arrested five days later. Tel Aviv District prosecutors then filed a serious indictment against him for burglary of a business, theft, and malicious damage, and police asked that he remain in custody until the end of proceedings.
