Tel Aviv Man Impersonates Restaurant Reps to Steal Credit Card Details in Large Fraud

A 26-year-old man from northern Israel, now living in Tel Aviv, was indicted for a sophisticated credit card fraud scheme involving impersonation of food delivery representatives. The Tel Aviv District Police's Prosecution Unit charged him after he was caught using stolen credit cards to make expensive purchases and possessing numerous stolen goods.

According to the indictment filed on Monday, the suspect obtained information about customer orders from food and catering companies. He then called these customers, pretending to be a representative of the business, and under various pretexts convinced them to provide their credit card details. This method reportedly netted him hundreds of thousands of shekels.

Following the acquisition of the credit card information, the suspect embarked on a shopping spree, buying luxury clothing, shoes, sunglasses, computers, and other items from stores mainly in the Tel Aviv area. The unusual transaction patterns triggered an investigation, which included gathering testimonies from victims and business owners and linking the stolen credit card details to the fraudulent purchases.

The suspect was arrested and remains in custody pending trial. He faces 20 charges, including using essential components of payment methods for profit or benefit and receiving assets obtained by fraud. The police have requested his continued detention until the legal proceedings conclude.
