Second-Floor Balcony Collapses Onto Jerusalem Restaurant, Killing One and Injuring Three

A dramatic collapse of a second-floor balcony occurred on Keren Kayemet LeIsrael Street in the Rehavia neighborhood of Jerusalem, causing severe damage to a restaurant on the ground floor. The incident resulted in the death of an approximately 80-year-old man who was trapped under the rubble. Three others, including an elderly woman and two teenage boys aged 16 and 17, sustained light injuries and were taken to the hospital for treatment.

The rescue operation began with civilians who managed to extract two individuals before emergency services arrived. Firefighters, Magen David Adom paramedics, police, United Hatzalah, and ZAKA volunteers conducted extensive search and rescue efforts to locate any additional victims and secure the site. The elderly man was found trapped beneath the collapsed structure and was pronounced dead at the scene after being rescued.

Emergency responders provided medical care to the injured on-site and ensured the building was secured to prevent further collapse. Police blocked off the street and surrounding areas to facilitate rescue operations. ZAKA volunteers assisted with respectful handling of the deceased and evidence collection. The Israel Police and relevant professional authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the balcony collapse.
