Barry Levitt Dies After Balcony Collapse on Jerusalem Cafe

Barry Levitt, an 80-year-old man, died after a balcony on the second floor of a three-story residential building collapsed onto a restaurant on the ground floor in the Rehavia neighborhood of Jerusalem. Levitt was dining with his wife and grandchildren at the time of the accident. The incident occurred on the street of the Jewish National Fund (Keren Kayemet LeIsrael).

Emergency services including firefighters, Magen David Adom, Israeli police, United Hatzalah, and ZAKA were dispatched to the scene. Before their arrival, bystanders rescued two people trapped under the rubble. Firefighters then conducted complex rescue operations using specialized equipment to search for additional victims.

Levitt was found trapped under the debris and was extracted by medical teams who pronounced him dead at the scene. Five other people were injured, including an 80-year-old woman in light condition, two teenagers aged 16, and three individuals suffering from shock. Authorities secured the building due to fears of further collapse and closed off the area to facilitate rescue efforts. The cause of the balcony collapse remains under investigation.
