Netanyahu Strongly Condemns Rabbi Lando's Harsh Criticism of Religious Zionist Soldiers

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu responded firmly to Rabbi Dov Lando's recent severe remarks against the Religious Zionist community and their soldiers in the Israel Defense Forces. Without naming Rabbi Lando directly, Netanyahu condemned the statements as "shocking" and emphasized the dedication of IDF soldiers from religious, secular, and ultra-Orthodox backgrounds who risk their lives to protect Israel and its citizens. Rabbi Lando, a leader in the Lithuanian ultra-Orthodox community, had harshly criticized the enlistment of Religious Zionist youth in the IDF during a meeting with heads of the Mir Yeshiva. He accused them of aiding murder by participating in wars not solely for defense but for "the honor of the state," calling such actions outright murder and incitement to killing. The remarks also targeted those in the religious community who value army service, referring to them as "wicked."

During the meeting, Rabbi Eliezer Yehuda Finkel, head of the Mir Yeshiva, visited Rabbi Lando to express gratitude for his dedication to Torah study and the yeshiva. When asked about prayers for the current difficult times, Rabbi Lando expressed hope for divine help and a swift resolution, describing the situation as serious and challenging. The yeshiva leaders also informed Rabbi Lando of their decision to impose a speech fast among students, which he praised as a significant spiritual strengthening.
