Israeli Tax Authority Employees Arrested for Accepting Bribes in 80 Million Shekel Fraud Scheme

Following a covert investigation by the National Fraud Investigations Unit (Yahaha) in Lahav 433 and the Central Investigations Tax Officer Unit of the Israeli Tax Authority, several current and former tax authority employees were arrested this morning on suspicion of accepting bribes. The suspects allegedly facilitated false tax refund claims totaling approximately 80 million shekels over several years in exchange for the bribes. With the investigation turning public today, Yahaha officers and tax investigators raided the suspects' homes and offices. Some of the detainees are expected to be brought before the Ramla Magistrate's Court later today to extend their detention. A gag order was issued by Judge Tal Aner, prohibiting the publication of any information regarding a state witness in the case or details that could reveal the identity of the witness or their family members.
