Israeli Supreme Court Freezes Implementation of New Communications Law
The Israeli Supreme Court issued a temporary injunction on Sunday delaying the enforcement of certain provisions of the recently approved Communications Law. The injunction follows a petition filed by Democratic Party leader MK Efrat Rayten and former Communications Minister MK Eitan Ginzburg. The petition challenges the law and requests a freeze on the immediate application of its provisions, which were set to take effect upon publication. The court ruled that until a decision is made on the request for an interim injunction, the contested provisions will not come into force.
