Israeli Police Officer Investigated for Obstructing Murder Inquiry in Jerusalem
The Israeli Police Investigations Department (Mahash) questioned a female traffic officer on Wednesday under caution for allegedly obstructing justice and breaching trust in connection with the murder investigation of Benyahu Razi in Jerusalem. The officer is reportedly a relative of one of the suspects in the case. Authorities suspect that shortly after the violent incident, she met with two suspects who updated her about the event. It is alleged that she then took actions that could have hindered the investigation before any arrests were made. Despite her duties as an active officer, she failed to report these interactions to law enforcement officials.
Following the interrogation, the officer was released under restrictive conditions including three days of house arrest, an eight-day ban on approaching the involved parties, and a prohibition on contacting those connected to the case. The investigation by Mahash is ongoing. This incident adds to a series of serious cases in recent years where police officers have been suspected of attempting to influence or obstruct criminal investigations.
