Israeli Soldier Sentenced to Five Years for Sharing Interception Videos with Iran

The Israel Defense Forces announced that a regular soldier was sentenced to five years in prison for espionage offenses involving Iran. Although the soldier did not disclose military secrets or information obtained through his official duties, he sent videos of missile interceptions filmed during Operation "With the Lion" and other footage to Iranian contacts. The soldier also received a suspended sentence, a fine of 1,000 shekels, and was demoted to the rank of private.

During 2025, the soldier received messages on his Telegram account from various sources, some linked to Iran, offering different jobs. An Iranian agent asked if he wanted to earn money by filming tasks. The soldier sent two videos of missile interceptions in civilian areas to the agent, receiving payment for one. He also sent videos from civilian locations, including one showing a missile strike he found online. Ultimately, the soldier informed a unit official about his contact with the agent and was arrested the next day by the Shin Bet security service.

He was convicted of contact with a foreign agent and providing information that could benefit the enemy. The military prosecution sought a seven-year sentence, citing the severity of the offenses, the soldier’s military status, and the ongoing state of war in Israel. However, the military court considered that the soldier did not share classified information or data from his role and gave weight to the fact that he ended contact with the agent and reported it.
