Israeli Soldier Sentenced to Five Years for Filming Missile Interceptions for Iranian Agent
An Israeli military court sentenced a regular IDF soldier to five years in prison for contacting an Iranian agent and providing intelligence that could benefit the enemy. The soldier began receiving enticing messages in 2025 via his Telegram account from individuals linked to Iran, who offered him paid assignments. He accepted and sent two videos he filmed himself during Operation "With the Lion," showing missile interceptions over civilian areas, receiving payment for one of them. He later sent additional materials, including footage of missile strikes found online.
The combined investigation by the Military Police, Military Intelligence, and Shin Bet led to the indictment. The military prosecution sought a seven-year sentence, emphasizing the serious security risk and the need to deter others. However, the court noted the soldier did not leak classified information obtained through his military role. The soldier acted on his own initiative, ended contact with the agent when feeling pressured, and reported the matter to his commanders, which led to his immediate arrest by Shin Bet.
In addition to the five-year prison term, the soldier received a suspended sentence, a 1,000 shekel fine, and was demoted to private. The judges highlighted the gravity of the offenses but took into account the soldier's self-reporting and cooperation.
