Sara Netanyahu Seeks Extended Security Detail for Herself and Sons Amid Security Concerns
Ahead of a sensitive meeting scheduled for Tuesday at the Ministerial Committee on Shin Bet Affairs, Sara Netanyahu has requested from the National Security Council and the Shin Bet a security assessment supporting an extension of protection for herself and her sons, Yair and Avner, for five years. According to a report by Channel 12 News, she also demanded that the decision be made immediately, regardless of the upcoming election results. Sara Netanyahu argued that, similar to defense ministers who receive five years of security after their term, she and her sons deserve a comparable arrangement due to threats against them.
Sources familiar with the matter revealed that in recent weeks, the National Security Council opposed submitting an opinion supporting this request. While acknowledging current threats linked to the security situation and tensions with Iran, they consider a predetermined five-year security period disproportionate and unjustified. The Shin Bet has yet to submit its assessment to the ministerial committee. The agency is expected to recommend continuing protection only as long as the threat level warrants it, without a fixed time frame.
The National Security Council declined to comment on classified discussions, and the Shin Bet refused to respond. The Prime Minister's Office stated that the report is inaccurate.
