Sara Netanyahu Seeks Five-Year Security Extension for Herself and Sons Amid Threat Concerns

Sara Netanyahu reportedly requested professional assessments from the National Security Council and Shin Bet to extend security protection for herself and her sons, Yair and Avner, to five years. This move was intended to precede a scheduled, but currently postponed, discussion by the Ministerial Committee on Shin Bet Affairs. According to the report by Channel 12, Sara Netanyahu argued that if defense ministers receive five years of security after their term, she and her sons should also be granted similar protection due to the level of threats they face.

Sources familiar with the matter indicated that officials at the National Security Council opposed issuing such an opinion, citing that while threats exist, especially given tensions with Iran, a predetermined five-year security period is disproportionate and lacks justification. Shin Bet has not yet submitted its assessment to the committee, but it is expected to recommend security be maintained only as long as the threat level warrants, without a fixed time frame.

Both Shin Bet and the National Security Council declined to comment on the report, with the latter emphasizing its policy of not discussing classified deliberations. The Prime Minister's Office denied the report's accuracy, stating the information is incorrect.
