Inter Milan Deal for Israeli Player Anan Halili Falls Through After Failed Medical
Inter Milan's planned 25 million euro signing of Israeli footballer Anan Halili collapsed on July 13 after he failed the club's stringent cardiac medical examination. Halili, who had impressed in the Belgian league and the Champions League following his start at Maccabi Haifa and participation in the World Cup, was set to join the San Siro club as a major transfer. Inter CEO Giuseppe Marotta announced at a press conference that the rejection was due to the Olympic Committee's medical standards, which are very strict in Italy, and not a decision by Inter's staff. Marotta expressed regret over the news and said the club must now seek alternative options, particularly to fill the right-back position vacated by Denzel Dumfries. Italian sports media confirmed Inter must return to the transfer market to find a new right-back after their primary candidate was ruled out.
