Inter Cancels Signing of Israeli Footballer Anan Khalaily After Failed Medical Tests
Italian Serie A club Inter Milan has decided not to sign 21-year-old Israeli footballer Anan Khalaily after he failed to pass the required medical examinations. Khalaily was unable to complete all the necessary medical tests over the weekend, which were a condition for finalizing his transfer. Medical assessments in Italy are known to be more stringent than in other European leagues. The transfer had been agreed upon last Thursday following Khalaily's successful stint at Belgian club Union Saint-Gilloise, where he made 99 appearances, won the Belgian league and cup, and scored in the UEFA Champions League.
Khalaily, who grew up in Maccabi Haifa's youth system, gained recognition during the 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup, helping Israel reach the semifinals and scoring crucial goals against Uzbekistan and Brazil. He played one season with Maccabi Haifa's senior team in 2023/24, appearing in 50 matches and scoring 14 goals across all competitions before moving to Europe. Other clubs, including KAMO, had also shown interest in Khalaily, but his camp had indicated that Inter was the preferred destination.
