Israel Shares Intelligence With US on Iranian Plot to Assassinate President Trump

Israel has provided the United States with fresh intelligence indicating an official Iranian plan to assassinate President Donald Trump. This revelation comes amid escalating tensions following Iran's repeated vows to avenge the killing of General Qassem Soleimani. The intelligence sharing was reported on Friday by the Wall Street Journal.

President Trump openly acknowledged the assassination threats during his visit to Ankara, Turkey, on Wednesday, stating that Iran has him on multiple hit lists. He remarked, "They want to kill the leader of the United States, me. I am on every list. I saw this morning that I am on every one of their lists. So far, I guess I've been a bit lucky, but maybe that won't last much longer."

While the Israeli embassy in Washington declined to comment and Iran has not issued an official response, the tension between Jerusalem and Washington is palpable. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is pushing for continued strikes and further military objectives against Iran, whereas Trump is seeking a way to de-escalate the conflict, fearing that ongoing hostilities could trigger a global economic collapse.

Last Thursday, Trump and Netanyahu spoke in an effort to smooth relations, with Netanyahu's office stating that both leaders agreed to continue "coordination between the countries." Trump also updated Netanyahu on recent U.S. operations in the Gulf.

The hostility from Iran toward Trump is longstanding, rooted in retaliation for the killing of Soleimani during Trump's first term. Since the current conflict began, Trump and Netanyahu have maintained fluctuating but frequent nighttime communications, sharing intelligence and emphasizing their strong friendship and unprecedented coordination.

If the assassination plot is confirmed, it would represent a significant escalation potentially requiring a severe U.S. military response, which Trump is keen to avoid. The president's repeated references to "kill lists" highlight the seriousness of the threat and increase pressure on U.S. security agencies to enhance protective measures around him to unprecedented levels.
