IDF Kills Hezbollah Gunman Who Opened Fire in Southern Lebanon Security Zone
On Tuesday, reserve soldiers from the IDF's Yiftach Brigade (679), operating under the 91st Division in the Bint Jbeil area of southern Lebanon, conducted searches in a building linked to a previous clash that left a reservist seriously wounded. During the operation, a Hezbollah militant inside the building fired at the Israeli forces. The troops, including a combat soldier from the Oketz unit, returned fire and killed the attacker. Unfortunately, the Oketz unit's dog was also killed in the exchange. No Israeli soldiers were injured.
This incident is part of a series of recent IDF operations targeting Hezbollah threats in the security zone. Earlier, the IDF struck four suspects approaching the security zone near Al-Aqida, neutralizing an immediate threat. Additionally, over the past month, the 401st Brigade, also under the 91st Division, gained operational control over the village of Hadata, a Hezbollah stronghold. In that area, the IDF destroyed more than 90 terror infrastructures, killed over 20 militants, and seized more than 150 weapons, including RPGs, anti-tank missiles, machine guns, and assault rifles.
Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Eyal Zamir recently conducted an operational briefing at the Bofor ridge, a strategic Hezbollah base for decades. Joined by Northern Command Chief Major General Rafi Milo and other commanders, Zamir reviewed the complex underground tunnels used by Hezbollah for command posts and firing positions. He stated, "Hezbollah is exhausted and has been defeated in every battle against our forces," emphasizing that the IDF now controls key terrain both above and below ground.
Meanwhile, the 36th Division continues intensive operations to clear the extensive tunnel network beneath Bofor. During these efforts, the IDF uncovered maps funded by the Iranian regime, highlighting the ongoing threat to northern Israeli communities. The IDF reaffirmed its commitment to eliminating all threats to its forces and preventing Hezbollah from harming Israeli civilians. The operational activities in the security zone are ongoing at full intensity.
