Israeli Border Police Shoot Suspects Attacking Them Near Qalandiya Checkpoint
An Israeli Border Police team in the West Bank arrived at a gate near the Qalandiya checkpoint when a civilian vehicle attempted to pass through a gate designated only for security forces. Upon approaching to investigate, several suspects exited the vehicle and attacked the officers with punches and chokeholds, attempting to seize their weapons. A female officer fired warning shots into the air, but the suspects continued their assault. One officer, perceiving a serious threat as he saw a suspect choking a fellow officer, fired at the lower bodies of two suspects. Both suspects, later identified as security guards who were not properly identified, were lightly injured and taken for medical treatment. Several Border Police officers sustained minor injuries during the attack. The circumstances of the incident are currently under investigation.
