Israeli Border Police Repel Violent Attack at Qalandiya Checkpoint with Gunfire
A Border Police team operating in the West Bank was violently attacked by several suspects attempting to breach a security gate near the Qalandiya checkpoint on Tuesday. The officers were in a vehicle en route to an operational mission when a civilian car from the West Bank tried to enter through a security gate designated for security forces only. Upon approaching the vehicle to verify the occupants' identities, several suspects exited and assaulted the officers with punches and chokeholds, attempting to seize their weapons.
During the assault, one female officer fired a warning shot into the air to deter the attackers, but the suspects continued their violent behavior. When one officer saw a suspect choking a fellow officer, he fired at the lower body of two suspects to neutralize the threat. The shooter then administered first aid to the wounded until medical teams arrived. It was later revealed that the two suspects who were shot were employed as security guards, though they were not identified as such during the incident.
Both suspects were lightly injured and evacuated for medical treatment, while several Border Police officers sustained minor injuries. The police are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the event. This incident is considered highly unusual due to the severity of the attack on security personnel at a controlled checkpoint.
