Israeli Border Police Shoot Two Security Guards After Attack Near Qalandiya Checkpoint

On Tuesday morning near the Qalandiya checkpoint, a team of Israeli Border Police (Magav) personnel was attacked by security guards. The Border Police unit was en route to an operational mission and had passed through a gate designated for security forces only. While waiting for the gate to close, a civilian vehicle from the West Bank attempted to enter Israeli territory through the same gate. The Border Police approached the vehicle to verify the occupants' identities. Several suspects exited the vehicle and assaulted the officers with punches and chokeholds, attempting to seize their weapons.

During the confrontation, one female officer fired a warning shot into the air, but the attackers continued their assault. According to police, when one officer saw a suspect choking a fellow officer and perceived a real threat to their lives, he fired at the lower bodies of two suspects, wounding them lightly. The officer who fired immediately provided first aid until medical teams arrived. It was later revealed that the two wounded suspects were employed as security guards but were not identified as such during the incident.

Both injured security guards were evacuated for medical treatment, and several Border Police officers also sustained minor injuries. The police are investigating the circumstances, including why the security guards did not identify themselves, which may have escalated the situation.
