IDF Captain David Hazut Laid to Rest After Fatal Lebanon Battle
Captain David Hazut, deputy commander of Golani Brigade's 12th Battalion, was buried on Sunday in Ashkelon following his death in combat in southern Lebanon. Thousands attended the funeral, where his family mourned his loss. His mother, Galit, recalled their recent conversation about the dangers of their deployment, expressing disbelief and sorrow: "My son, my life, who would have believed this would happen?" She shared how David had told her, "Mom, I only want Golani, that's my life." She warned him about the risks, calling the soldiers "cannon fodder," but he replied that only those there could understand, and if his time came, she should gather her life and continue living. She pledged to keep living in his memory and called for an end to the fighting in southern Lebanon, stating, "Every soldier who goes there goes in vain. I've been through Gaza, the West Bank, Lebanon, and I lost in Lebanon." Hazut's partner also spoke tearfully, lamenting their separation and recalling his love and care. She said, "You were my lighthouse once; now you will be my lighthouse. Thank you for being my greatest love, I wish you were my husband." The funeral highlighted the personal toll of the ongoing conflict in Lebanon and the deep grief of those left behind.
