American data integration company Boomi has acquired Israeli startup Elementary Data for an estimated $43 million in cash and stock. Elementary specializes in data observability, developing a platform that monitors data reliability within organizations by tracking information flow, identifying anomalies in data freshness, volume, and quality, and pinpointing the source of issues down to the column level. The company also operates an MCP server that helps AI tools and agents assess data trustworthiness.

Elementary originated as an open-source project in 2022, now used by over 1,500 data teams with more than 1.1 million monthly downloads. In 2024, it launched a commercial cloud version with clients including Fiverr and Patagonia. Boomi has stated that both the commercial product and the open-source project will continue to operate without interruption for existing customers.

"AI is only as reliable as the data behind it," said Boomi Chairman and CEO Steve Lucas. He explained that the acquisition enhances Boomi's capabilities with a layer of monitoring, quality control, and assurance for data powering AI systems and agents. A Boomi-sponsored survey indicated that while 86% of executives reported their organizations have moved beyond AI agent experimentation, only 34% trust the actions performed by these systems.

Elementary was founded by CEO Maayan Saloom and CTO and Product Manager Or Avidor, both veterans of Unit 8200. The company has raised approximately $8.5 million from investors including TLV Partners, Cowboy Ventures, Y Combinator, and private investors. All 17 of Elementary's employees, based in Israel, will join Boomi, which plans to significantly expand its operations in the country. This marks Boomi's third acquisition in Israel, following Rivery and Lunar.dev.
