A 29-year-old yeshiva student from Britain was killed in a severe car accident in Chisinau, Moldova, after losing control of his vehicle and overturning into a ravine. The man was a Hasidic student with a student visa who had been studying in Jerusalem, Israel.
According to the initial report, local rescue teams reached the scene, pulled him from the wrecked car in critical condition, and after prolonged resuscitation efforts were forced to pronounce him dead. The crash took place in Chisinau.
An early investigation indicates that the victim had arrived with several other people to visit the grave of Rabbi Yechiel Heshel of Krylovitz, who is buried in the old cemetery in Chisinau, where his yahrzeit was being marked that day.
Baruch Nidam, head of ZAKA’s international division, said that as soon as the report was received, his team and Rabbi Salzman went to the scene, found the crushed vehicle in the ravine, and began handling the body with dignity while working with local authorities to release the deceased for transport to Israel for burial and funeral arrangements.
