A Jerusalem resident in his 30s was killed recently in a serious car accident in Chisinau, the capital of Moldova. His family has already been informed of the tragedy, and officials are now working to help them from thousands of kilometers away.
After ZAKA’s international operations center received the report, the organization immediately began coordinating with Moldovan authorities, the Jewish community in Chisinau, and the family in Israel. The main goal is to handle the scene with sensitivity and professionalism and complete the bureaucratic steps needed to bring the deceased home for burial in Israel as soon as possible.
Nahman Dikstein, who heads ZAKA Europe and is handling the case closely, said the organization moved into action as soon as the report arrived. “We immediately opened work with the authorities in Chisinau and all relevant parties. We are accompanying the family throughout this difficult process,” he said.
Dikstein added that ZAKA volunteers are gathering evidence at the scene and doing everything possible to speed up the release of the body by local authorities. The plan is to fly the deceased to Israel as quickly as possible, while preserving the dignity of the dead.
