Bennett Slams Netanyahu Over Response to Hijacking Attempt

Former Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett publicly criticized current Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu following an attempted airplane hijacking, stating Netanyahu should focus on security rather than issuing warnings. Bennett accused Netanyahu of not acting decisively, saying, "You are not a warning app, you are the prime minister. Deal with the incident and ensure security." This criticism emerged after reports that Netanyahu had been briefed on threats prior to the hijacking attempt.

Meanwhile, Defense Minister Israel Katz characterized the incident as a "Jihadist attempted attack," suggesting the suspect intended to crash the plane. President Isaac Herzog praised the passengers' bravery and quick thinking in preventing a disaster, emphasizing the strong alliance with the United Arab Emirates and their cooperation in combating terrorism.

Other Israeli officials, including Minister of Finance Bezalel Smotrich and Chairman of the National Unity Party Yair Golan, also lauded the passengers' actions, drawing parallels to the heroism displayed on October 7th. US Ambassador to Israel Mike Magenis expressed relief at the passengers' safe return and highlighted the US's pride in Israel as a true partner. British Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband conveyed concern over the incident but relief at the safe landing. Foreign Minister Gabi Ashkenazi discussed strengthening bilateral ties and counter-terrorism efforts with his UAE counterpart, Abdullah bin Zayed.
