Netanyahu Orders Security Forces on Alert After Dubai Flight Incident

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that he has instructed Israel's security establishment to prepare for potential further threats following a serious security incident on a Flydubai flight. The incident, which occurred on Wednesday, prompted widespread reactions from Israeli and international officials. Netanyahu praised the "heroes on the flight" for their resourcefulness and courage.

Defense Minister Israel Katz described the event as an attempted "jihadist attack" that was thwarted by the bravery of Israeli passengers who reportedly broke into the cockpit and subdued the perpetrator. Katz asserted that the attacker's intention was to crash the plane, and he used the incident to reiterate warnings to both external enemies and internal critics, emphasizing that these warnings do not impede proactive security operations.

U.S. Ambassador to Israel, Mike Harkavy, acknowledged that details were still emerging but noted that Israelis aboard the flight assisted in subduing the co-pilot, who allegedly attempted to take control of the aircraft. He expressed relief that the situation did not result in a "horrific event" and confirmed everyone's safety.

Israeli Ambassador to the UN, Danny Danon, lauded the passengers' "exceptional determination and resourcefulness" in preventing a major disaster. He also thanked the pilot from the UAE, describing him as fighting "like a lion" to protect passengers and wished him a full recovery.

Israel's Consul General in New York, Ofir Akunis, called the averted attack a "Sukkot miracle," attributing the prevention of a large-scale terror attack against Jews and Israel to the courage of the Israeli passengers. Former Israeli Ambassador to the UAE, Amir Hayek, urged restraint from speculation, trusting that Flydubai and Etihad would conduct a thorough investigation, given their continued service to Israel during difficult times.

Flydubai issued a statement acknowledging the incident, stating that the motives are currently unknown and under official investigation. The airline urged all parties to avoid premature speculation and emphasized its priority is the safety and well-being of passengers and crew, as well as assisting the ongoing investigation.
