Netanyahu Orders Security Forces on Alert After Dubai Flight Attack

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced Wednesday that he has instructed Israel's security establishment to prepare for potential additional threats following a serious security incident aboard a flight from Dubai.

During the flight, as the plane neared Israel, one pilot reportedly attacked the other with a stabbing weapon and attempted to crash the aircraft. Netanyahu stated that nearly all passengers on the flight were Israelis. A passenger recounted that the plane entered a dive, and they were unsure if there was even a pilot. "We didn't even know if there was a pilot, there are children here who almost died," the passenger said.

According to Netanyahu's account, a passenger and a crew member managed to breach the cockpit, overpower the assailant pilot while he was attempting to sabotage the plane's systems, and stabilize the aircraft. "I salute these heroes who showed exceptional resourcefulness and courage. They saved many lives, they prevented a heavy disaster," Netanyahu stated.

The plane landed safely in Tabuk, Saudi Arabia. All passengers were reported to be out of danger, and the assailant pilot was arrested and is being interrogated by Saudi authorities. Israel is maintaining contact with relevant authorities to ensure the passengers' continued safety and their secure return to Israel. Netanyahu added that ongoing situation assessments are taking place and the public will be updated.
