Flydubai Passengers Head to Israel After Mid-Air Incident

A Flydubai flight bound for Israel, which made an emergency landing in Saudi Arabia, departed for its destination on Wednesday after passengers were stranded for approximately eight hours. The aircraft, flight FZ1073, had issued a distress signal over Jordanian airspace before diverting to Saudi Arabia due to a security incident on board. Flydubai stated the signal was triggered by an altercation between members of the flight crew. Israeli reports suggest authorities are investigating the possibility that the co-pilot, an Omani national, attempted to hijack the plane, but was thwarted by the pilot, an Emirati national. These details remain under investigation.

After initial difficulties in arranging for Israeli Air Force planes to evacuate the passengers, Flydubai decided to send a replacement aircraft. However, dozens of passengers initially refused to board the substitute plane, citing fears following the incident. Some passengers contacted Israeli Transportation Minister Miri Regev and National Security Council officials.

In Israel, security agencies and the Ministry of Transportation have launched a joint investigation into the incident. Key aspects under review include the composition of the flight crew, particularly the involvement of a pilot from a country with no diplomatic ties to Israel, and whether any prior indicators of trouble could have been detected before the flight.
