Lapid Slams Government Over Security Briefing Claims

Opposition leader Yair Lapid fiercely criticized the government on Wednesday following an attempted hijacking of a Flydubai plane en route from Dubai to Tel Aviv. Lapid addressed claims that he received relevant security warnings during a briefing with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu the previous day. "To clarify: Nothing even resembling this morning's plane incident appeared in yesterday's security update with the Prime Minister. Not similar, not reminiscent, not even hinted at," Lapid stated.

Lapid accused the government of "cheap politics at the expense of Israel's security," calling them an "irresponsible group." Shortly after Lapid's remarks, a "diplomatic source" presented a different account, asserting that the opposition leader was indeed updated on a significant increase in threats against Israeli targets abroad. According to this source, "the Military Secretary updated him yesterday that there is a significant increase in foreign terror activity at a scope we haven't seen in years."

Lapid responded sharply to the diplomatic source, calling them "irresponsible" and accusing them of lying again. He clarified that the warning discussed was not related to the plane incident, stating, "The warning about activity abroad is specific, has existed for over two years, and does not concern planes or anything similar to what happened this morning."
