Israeli Official Contradicts Lapid on Security Briefing Details

A diplomatic source has contradicted claims made by opposition leader Yair Lapid regarding the content of a security briefing he received from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Lapid had stated that the briefing did not include any information resembling the recent Flydubai plane incident.

However, the diplomatic source asserted that the Military Secretariat informed Lapid about a "significant increase in overseas Palestinian terror activities on a scale not seen in years." This statement comes after Lapid explicitly said that "nothing even resembling this morning's plane incident" was presented to him during the briefing.

The dispute began when Netanyahu warned of potential enemy attacks ahead of the elections. Lapid requested an urgent security update, seeking clarification on the reality of these threats. Following a meeting with Netanyahu, which included military officials, Lapid acknowledged the existence of threats but criticized the Prime Minister's public presentation of them, urging a professional and responsible approach to avoid public panic.

Later, in response to the Flydubai incident, Lapid reiterated his claim that no similar scenario was presented in his briefing. The diplomatic source, while not claiming a specific plane attack scenario was presented, directly refuted the impression that Lapid was not warned about a substantial rise in overseas terror threats.

Israeli sources speaking to Reuters suggested that the Flydubai incident might have been a terror attempt rather than a mental health issue, linking it to Netanyahu's prior warnings.
