Lapid Accuses Official Source of Lying Over Security Briefing

Opposition leader Yair Lapid has intensified his verbal assault on an "official source" he claims is deliberately misleading the public regarding a security briefing he received from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The dispute centers on the nature of the threat information presented to Lapid.

An unnamed "official source" stated that Lapid was updated on a significant increase in terror activity abroad. However, Lapid vehemently denied this, asserting that the warning discussed is over two years old, specific, and unrelated to any recent events, such as an incident involving a Flydubai plane. He accused the source of repeatedly lying to confuse everyone and attempting to exploit the actions of heroic Israelis who prevented a disaster he claims Netanyahu failed to prepare for.

The controversy escalated following an unusual incident on a Flydubai flight. A senior official in the Prime Minister's office suggested a link between Netanyahu's prior warnings and this event. Lapid countered unequivocally that no scenario resembling the plane incident was presented during his security briefing.

The core of the disagreement lies in the interpretation of the briefing. The "official source" does not claim Lapid was warned about a specific plot against an airplane, but rather that he was informed of an unusual surge in foreign terror operations. Lapid, while not denying the topic was raised, insists it was a long-standing, specific warning unconnected to the recent flight incident.

Earlier, Lapid had approached the Prime Minister's office regarding Netanyahu's warnings, seeking clarification on their seriousness. After the meeting, Lapid stated that while security threats exist and require professional handling, the IDF, Shin Bet, and police are prepared, and there is no reason to cause public panic.
