IDF Eliminates Hamas Northern Gaza Brigade Commander After Four Failed Attempts
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) eliminated Izz al-Din Badreddin, the commander of Hamas's Northern Gaza Brigade, in an overnight operation in Gaza. The announcement was made in a joint statement from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz.
According to the statement, Badreddin was involved in planning terror attacks against IDF forces and recruiting operatives for Hamas. He had reportedly survived four previous assassination attempts before being killed in the fifth. The operation was carried out by Israeli security forces.
Netanyahu and Katz praised the IDF and Shin Bet for their operations against Hamas leaders and operatives. "We will continue to hunt down and pursue all the terrorists of the organization, from its commanders to its last operative, wherever they hide, until Hamas is no more in Gaza," the statement read.
New details indicate Badreddin had evaded targeted killings multiple times in the past. On this occasion, he was killed in his bed while sleeping. To prevent his escape, the Israeli Air Force bombed all rooms in the building where he was located. Badreddin had been planning kidnapping attacks against IDF soldiers and was engaged in recruiting and training new militants for Hamas's military wing.
