IDF Eliminates Hamas Northern Gaza Commander in Targeted Strike
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) successfully eliminated a senior Hamas commander, Ez al-Din al-Bik, the head of the terror group's Northern Gaza Brigade, in an overnight operation. Palestinian reports confirmed the strike occurred in a Gaza City apartment. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz jointly announced the operation, stating that al-Bik was actively involved in planning terror attacks against IDF forces and recruiting operatives for Hamas.
According to the joint statement, al-Bik was targeted while in his bed in a residential home in the northern Gaza Strip, along with an aide. The strike was executed with precision-guided munitions to minimize collateral damage. This operation follows a previous assassination attempt on al-Bik in May, during which Imad Aslim, deputy commander of Hamas's Gaza City Brigade, was killed.
Al-Bik, born in 1981, joined Hamas early in his life and rose through the ranks, joining the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, Hamas's military wing, in 2000. Netanyahu and Katz praised the IDF and Shin Bet's ongoing efforts against Hamas leadership, vowing to continue operations "wherever they hide" until Hamas is no longer present in Gaza.
The elimination of al-Bik is the latest in a series of targeted killings of Hamas brigade commanders in recent weeks, including the commanders of the Khan Yunis and Rafah brigades.
