Man Arrested for Weapons Possession Days Before Wedding

Police in northern Israel arrested a 23-year-old man from the town of Zarzir on September 9, 2026, on suspicion of possessing a firearm and ammunition in his vehicle. The arrest occurred during a routine police operation aimed at preventing gun violence and crime in the Arab community. Officers on patrol observed a suspicious vehicle and signaled the driver to stop. The driver attempted to evade the checkpoint, increasing his speed and raising the officers' suspicions. Fearing the vehicle would breach the checkpoint and endanger the officers, police aimed their weapons and stopped the car.

During the stop, the driver exhibited nervous behavior and informed officers that he was about to get married in three days, pleading with them not to cause him trouble. Following his statement, police searched the vehicle and discovered an F.N. pistol and ammunition hidden in a sock next to the driver.

The suspect, a resident of Zarzir, was taken into custody for further investigation. His detention has been extended by the Nazareth Magistrate's Court. The Northern District Public Prosecution is expected to file an indictment against him on September 30, 2026, along with a request to detain him until the legal proceedings are concluded.
