Man Arrested in Northern Israel with Illegally Possessed Firearm

Israeli police in the Northern District, along with Border Guard forces, arrested a 22-year-old man from Sakhnin on suspicion of possessing an illegal weapon. The arrest occurred on August 28, 2026, when forces patrolling near the town of Ya'ad stopped a suspicious vehicle on Route 805. During the stop, a handgun of the FN model was discovered.

The suspect was taken for questioning, and the Akko Magistrate's Court extended his detention until September 1, 2026. Police stated that since the beginning of the year, forces in the Northern District and Border Guard have confiscated over 610 lethal weapons and apprehended armed individuals as part of efforts to combat violent crime.
