Israeli Police Arrest Two Suspects After Foiling Arms Deal in Northern Israel

Israeli police arrested two young men, aged 21 and 18, following a high-speed chase near Shfaram in northern Israel. The suspects, residents of Aablin and Ibtin, were pursued by a joint team of Border Police motorcyclists and Northern District officers on Route 781 after police spotted a suspicious vehicle. The driver ignored orders to stop and fled recklessly, driving against traffic and endangering others. Police fired at the vehicle's tires to halt it. During the escape, the suspects threw a Glock pistol from the car window, which was recovered by the police.

The incident occurred earlier this month and is believed to have disrupted a planned arms deal in the area. Following the arrest, the Haifa District Prosecutor's Office filed charges against the two suspects and requested their detention until the conclusion of legal proceedings.

In a related development, police investigated a shooting incident at a residence in Nazareth on the preceding Saturday, which resulted in no injuries. After initial reports, officers arrested a suspect at his home, where they found a hidden pistol and other evidence. The police are seeking to extend his detention as the investigation continues.

Authorities noted that since the beginning of the year, over 600 weapons have been seized in the Northern District and by the Border Police as part of efforts to combat organized crime and violence in Arab communities.
