Groom Arrested Hours Before Wedding Over Unproven Gunfire Allegations

Dr. Musa Hassadiya, a 31-year-old from Fureidis village near Zichron Yaakov, was detained by police just hours before his wedding ceremony on Friday, September 25. The arrest, which also included his 55-year-old father and the wedding's DJ, Mohammed Mahajneh, 31, was reportedly based on alleged gunfire during a pre-wedding reception in Arara, near Umm al-Fahm. The bride and guests in Arara waited in vain for the groom. A day later, a Haifa Magistrate's Court ordered the release of the suspects, stating that claims of criminal conspiracy to disturb public order lacked any basis. Police acknowledged that no weapons, ammunition, or shell casings were found during the search, meaning no evidence linked the detainees to the alleged crime. During the court hearing, a police representative conceded that given the dense construction in Arara, it was possible the shots originated elsewhere. Despite the lack of evidence, police appealed the release order, but the Haifa District Court rejected the appeal. Hassadiya and his father returned home on the evening of September 26 to a welcome from hundreds of relatives and neighbors. Attendees of the reception confirmed no shots were fired. The community in Fureidis expressed outrage over the police actions. This incident follows two other police raids on Arab weddings in the past two months, also failing to find evidence of illegal weapon use.
