Groom and Father Arrested on Suspicion of Firing Gunshots, Wedding Proceeds Without Them

A groom, his father, and a DJ were arrested on suspicion of involvement in gunfire during a family event in the Israeli town of Fureidis. The groom, a doctor at Rambam Hospital, was detained hours before his wedding ceremony, causing him to miss his own nuptials as his bride and hundreds of guests waited.

Despite police requests to extend their detention for three days on suspicion of conspiracy to commit a crime, the Haifa Magistrate's Court ordered their unconditional release. The judge stated that there was no reasonable suspicion that they had committed the alleged offenses. Police had based their request on reports of gunshots heard from the groom's family home earlier that day, prior to the main wedding reception at a hall in Arraba.

During the court hearing, it emerged that searches of the property yielded no weapons, shell casings, or other evidence linking the three men to the shooting. The defense argued that in a densely populated village, it was impossible to rule out that any shots fired originated from elsewhere.

The groom's lawyer, Muhammad Muasi, heavily criticized the police's actions, stating that the arrest prevented the groom from participating in his wedding, thus ruining one of the happiest days of his life. An eyewitness described the scene as "difficult and sad," with the bride left alone and the main ceremony proceeding while the groom was still in custody.
