Groom and Father Arrested on Suspicion of Firing Gunshots, Wedding Proceeds Without Them

A groom, his father, and a DJ were arrested on suspicion of involvement in gunfire during a family event in the village of Fureidis. The groom, a doctor at Rambam Hospital, was detained hours before his wedding ceremony, causing him to miss his own nuptials as his bride and hundreds of guests waited.

Despite police requests to extend their detention for three days on suspicion of conspiracy to commit a crime, the Haifa Magistrate's Court ordered their unconditional release. Judge Farha Joubran Miller stated that there was no reasonable suspicion that they had committed the alleged acts. The police had based their request on reports of gunshots heard from the groom's family home earlier that day, prior to the main reception at a hall in Arraba.

During the court hearing, it was revealed that searches of the property yielded no weapons, shell casings, or other evidence linking the three men to the shooting. The defense argued that in a densely populated village, it was impossible to rule out that any shots fired originated from elsewhere.

The groom's attorney, Muhammad Muasi, heavily criticized the police's actions, stating that the arrest prevented the groom from participating in his wedding, thus ruining one of the happiest days of his life. A witness described the scene as "difficult and sad," with guests arriving to find the bride alone and the main ceremony proceeding without the groom, who was still in custody.

The court's decision to release the men was temporarily delayed until 11:00 PM to allow the police to consider filing an appeal. The police have not yet issued a response to N12's request for comment.
