Groom Arrested Days Before Wedding on Gun Possession Charges
Israeli police recently arrested a 23-year-old man from the town of Zarzir on suspicion of possessing a handgun and ammunition, just days before his wedding. According to a police statement, officers on patrol observed a suspicious vehicle and signaled the driver to stop for inspection. The driver raised the officers' suspicions when he attempted to evade the checkpoint and sped up.
Fearing the vehicle might breach the checkpoint and endanger the officers, police aimed their weapons and immediately stopped the car. Upon stopping the vehicle, officers noticed the driver exhibiting suspicious and nervous behavior. The man pleaded with the officers, stating he was about to get married that week and asked them not to cause him trouble.
Following his plea, the officers decided to search the vehicle. During the search, they discovered an F.N. handgun and ammunition hidden inside a sock next to the driver. The suspect's detention has been extended by the Nazareth-Lower Galilee Magistrate's Court, and the Northern District Attorney's Office is expected to file charges against him.
