Heavy Rains and Floods Trap Dozens of Israelis in Nepal Mountains

Nepal is currently experiencing severe weather conditions, including intense and prolonged rainfall, which have resulted in at least six fatalities according to local authorities. The resulting floods have caused widespread road blockages and transportation disruptions across the country. In response, many tourists, including Israelis, who were visiting various sites and trekking routes have been advised to relocate to safer areas. Currently, dozens of Israeli tourists are stranded and isolated in mountainous regions with limited access. PassportCard, a travel insurance company, reports that it is assisting dozens of Israeli travelers in Nepal, with 17 individuals in the Annapurna region, 17 in the Manaslu region (including Samagaon), four in the Tsum Valley (Chumling), and two in the Everest region. Israelis stranded in Samagaon have reported power outages and rockfalls in the area overnight. PassportCard also noted that four of their policyholders require medical attention and are awaiting evacuation for treatment once weather conditions permit. The company emphasized that none of their insured individuals are currently in life-threatening situations and that their families are in constant contact with the company's situation room. Israel's Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the Israeli Embassy in Nepal is actively working to contact all Israeli citizens. The embassy is coordinating with local tour operators and guides to locate Israelis who have not yet been reached and to assist in their transfer to safer zones, contingent on terrain conditions. Current weather forecasts predict a gradual improvement in conditions over the next day or two, though a return to normalcy in the affected areas may take several days.
