Police Seize Weapons and Arrest Five in Rahat

Police in Rahat, a city in southern Israel, conducted operations over the weekend aimed at combating illegal weapons possession and violent incidents. During searches of residential complexes, officers discovered two handguns and ammunition clips. Two suspects were arrested in connection with this find and taken to the Rahat police station for further investigation.

In a separate operation, police stopped and searched a suspicious vehicle, finding an M-16 rifle and ammunition. A suspect was apprehended and brought to the Rahat police station.

Following reports of shootings related to family disputes, further police activity led to the arrest of two additional suspects. All five arrested individuals are residents of Rahat, aged in their twenties, thirties, and forties. They have been taken for continued investigation, and authorities expect to seek extensions of their detention in court.

Rahat Police Commander, Lieutenant Colonel Yona Yitzhak, stated that the police are acting decisively against gun violence and illegal weapon possession. He highlighted the effectiveness of a newly established field command post in the city for concentrating forces and proactively locating and seizing weapons, emphasizing their commitment to enhancing public safety.
