Israeli Police Arrest 36 in Rahat During Iron Net Operation, Seize Weapons and Drugs
During the past weekend, Israeli Border Police and Rahat police conducted a series of proactive enforcement operations under the "Iron Net" campaign, announced three months ago by Police Commissioner Dany Levi. These efforts led to the arrest of 36 suspects and the seizure of various weapons and drugs in the city of Rahat.
On Thursday night, officers searched a construction site area and arrested a 35-year-old Rahat resident, uncovering concealed weapons including a Glock pistol, two loaded magazines, an M16 rifle, a box of 5.56 mm ammunition, and two M16 magazines. The following day, with the assistance of a police dog, they found a Glock pistol and an explosive device hidden under a wooden deck in a yard. A locked closet in a bedroom contained crates with 25 boxes of 5.56 mm ammunition, seven M16 magazines, and parts of an M16 rifle. Three suspects aged 17, 19, and 56, all from Rahat, were detained for questioning.
Earlier in the week, on Wednesday night, police stopped a vehicle on Highway 40 and discovered approximately 736 grams of suspected heroin under the front passenger seat. The driver, a 40-year-old woman from Segev Shalom, and a 41-year-old male passenger from Rahat were arrested and brought in for investigation. The vehicle was impounded.
Additionally, on Saturday, 29 illegal residents were found and arrested in an abandoned building in Rahat. Earlier last week, seven more suspects were detained in various incidents. These arrests and seizures are part of the ongoing "Iron Net" operation aimed at restoring law and order in Rahat through coordinated efforts by the National Guard and local police.
