Police Seize Weapons and Arrest Five in Rahat Operations

Police in southern Israel conducted operations in the city of Rahat over the weekend, resulting in the seizure of various weapons and ammunition and the arrest of five suspects. The operations were led by the "Sahar" unit in conjunction with the Rahat police station and other regional law enforcement units, including the central unit for the South, the southern crime fighting unit, and the southern Border Police.

During a targeted search in Rahat, officers discovered a "shotgun" type rifle, six Glock pistol magazines, M-16 rifle magazines with 5.56mm ammunition, approximately 420 rounds of 9mm ammunition, about 40 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, and two M-16 rifle grips. Two residents of Rahat were detained for further investigation.

In a separate operation at the entrance to Rahat, Sahar unit fighters stopped a speeding vehicle. A search of the three occupants, residents of Ramla, revealed a knife in the possession of one individual. A further search of the vehicle uncovered a Glock 17 pistol and a magazine. All three occupants were arrested.

In total, the two operations led to the detention and arrest of five suspects and the confiscation of multiple weapons, magazines, and ammunition. Major Matti Tserfati of the Sahar unit stated that the unit is working diligently with regional forces to uncover and thwart illegal weapons possession, emphasizing the ongoing operational activity and inter-unit cooperation. He affirmed their commitment to proactive work against criminals and illegal arms holders for the safety of residents.
